Why is Irish linen considered an essential fabric for the spring summer season in the gentleman 's wardrobe? Every year, when we leave the coldest season behind, men from all over the world pay their attention to this fabric, especially for an elegant and refined garment such as the jacket.

Why is pure Irish linen preferred to traditional linen for certain uses such as outerwear or suits?

Mainly because due to the different structure of the yarn it has more body and weight (generally around 300gr/m2 and up) and therefore it creases more difficultly than traditional linen, in addition to maintaining its shape after ironing. But what are the origins of this fabric that has become so valuable? Due to a migration of artisans and intellectuals to Ireland, following a political restriction, the great tradition of Irish linen was born. The linen grown in Ireland is considered among the best in the world. This is due to multiple factors including the favorable climatic conditions and the knowledge of expert flax growers who are very attentive to the quality of the final product. Its fame is due to its valuable characteristics: it is light and soft to the touch and has a wonderful balance between drape, breathability and comfort. It is wearable, adaptable, perfect for making tailored clothes (like our tailored jacket) and yet full of personality. It enhances any garment and fit. There are many special attributes that make Irish Linen unique compared to those grown in the rest of the world. These are primarily the fineness of the yarns and the fabric that is still made by Irish spinners and weavers, as well as the skills – passed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, the softness of the water in the Irish streams, which is used for bleaching, dyeing and finishing, results in a fabric with a unique and inimitable look and feel. The innate characteristics of Irish Linen therefore constitute an additional asset for the making of tailored suits, making them even more valuable… especially in the summer when the breathability of the natural fibres makes the difference.

In the SS20 Virum collection, Irish linen will be the protagonist thanks to our tailored jackets.

Semi-lined and exemplifying the Neapolitan sartorial philosophy focused on comfort, the Virum double-breasted blazer jackets represent the right compromise between elegance and pleasantness to wear during the hot season. The four colors, blue, beige, green and rust , are intended for those who love sobriety but also for those who love to amaze with class.
